Product Tests

We ran a product test with over 300 runners at the North Carolina State Marathon. Everyone received a shirt made from our exclusive Active Cotton® before the race. After the race, we surveyed the runners about their experience:

80% (4 out of 5 participants) preferred our Active Cotton® to a synthetic competitor

82% said they would recommend Active Cotton® to a fellow athlete

88% stated their Active Cotton® shirt was less saturated/wet than their usual synthetic shirt

Those are pretty staggering numbers for a product that is just about to hit retail stores nationwide!

"Hi Regg. We met at Canfit and also on Saturday at the Scotiabank Expo - I'm with Running Free. Thank you so much for giving my boss Susan Roblin the yoga pants for me. Oh my GOSH!!! I love them. When I ran in them on Sunday afternoon I didn't feel ANY sweat, they were dry and believe me that's not normal. I ran yesterday and today and then went to teach my fitness class right away. I was gross and sweaty and really uncomfortable - I wasn't wearing your product! and wished I were. Today even my Sugoi wool socks were disgusting. I've yet to find a product, other than "Wool Power" socks that absorb the sweat on my very sweaty feet and keep them dry - do you make socks?? I told the ladies in my class this morning that while I believe your product may be expensive they will do well to invest once we get the products in the store. They were very excited and want to know when we'll get them in so they can buy them!
I'm completely sold. Never have I worn such an effective product. You can be guaranteed that when I'm in the store I'll be promoting your clothing.
Thanks for making such a great product line."

Sincerely, Laurie Atkinson

"As the weather continues to get colder, the Lady Lock has come in really handy in my crossfit workouts. They keep me warm when running outside and help keep my skin dry when doing an intense workout inside. I never really liked wearing pants or tights during a workout before as I found the material usually made my skin itch when I started to sweat. Since wearing the Lady Lock I no longer experience this irritation as the Active Cotton repels the moisture away from my skin leaving my skin dry and itch free!"

"I have always considered myself a true lululemon fan. I mean, why not? Their products are stylish, comfortable, and reasonably affordable. I would wear their products running, and more recently I would wear them during all CrossFit workouts and training. Nothing was going to change my mind. I was set. In recent months I was introduced to the Active Cotton Kinisi brand of exercise products. At first I was sceptical. Why would I change something that wasn’t broken? Well...WOW was it ever broken! I just didn’t realize it yet. I would compete in lululemon spandex pants, and even though they were comfortable, I always noticed that, no matter how light or heavy the workout, my legs would always start to sweat right away. I just thought this was because of the intensity of our workouts, and that it was normal! However, one day I decided to put on my Lady Lock long tights, because I forgot my other longer pants for our workout. Let me say, I will NEVER, use the Lady Lock as a backup any longer. From that day on, they have become my go to tights. The whole workout I was comfortable, felt supported where I needed support, and best of all...I was dry! I am so thankful for the Active Cotton material. In Crossfit competitions we are required to do multiple workouts in a matter of a few hours, often having no time to change in between. It was horrible feeling damp and cold all day. With the Active Cotton, sweat is drawn to the outside of the material leaving the skin feeling dry and warm, which makes for a much more comfortable day of competition. Now, I definitely consider myself a converted fan. It’s Kinisi for me from now on."

"UA synthetic shirts do get soaking wet and bunch up while Active Cotton® got rid of the wetness and stayed mostly dry and in place without shifting around. Being in and around professional athletes for 4 years I've had the opportunity to test and support many products of tight fitting polyester clothing products. From shirts and pants all the way to skull caps and socks. This product by far was the most comfortable, best breathing, moisture managed shirt I have experienced. The cotton based material made it comfortable enough to wear as an "everyday" shirt. Unlike similar products that stay wet and tend to "climb" your core, this shirt was dry throughout the course of practice and I didn't find myself having to pull the shirt down from my upper abs, making it a lot more comfortable."

"Just came back from San Diego where I ran the marathon. Been using your shorts The Lock for about three weeks and this was the first real long range test. What can I say? The shorts performed beautifully. During a race like this I do a few adjustments to 'the family jewels' as I'm running, but not that day. they were in exactly the same place as when I started the race. Huge difference and superior comfort. No rubbing, chaffing at all. In this world of promise, your product actually delivered. Fantastic. Nothing more to say. I'm a convert. The Lock rules."

"I have wear-tested your Active Cotton® shirt in place of my usual synthetics while playing racquetball, running and biking (spinning). It's breathable and nice and light, unlike traditional cotton shirts that get hot or heavy. The Kinisi shirt disperses sweat like my synthetics, but unlike them keeps me dry because the moisture seems to be pulled away from my skin. The venting is really good. And because its cotton, there is no static feeling and no burn or chill, just a very light and comfortable wear! Now that's what I call performance! "
Janice Solomon, Marathoner/Ironman competitor, creative director of Fox 40 International

"Hi:  I bought a pair of these shorts at the Toronto Waterfront Marathon expo a couple years ago. I have run 6 marathons since in them. I echo the praise of others on your web site. I have worn them out!! Where can I buy these in Edmonton or St Albert? I can't find a model number on the ones  have. Training for a January ultra experience and I need to buy a couple more pairs. Please help. Thanks; "

"VJ, the feedback I got this past weekend from the two players from Binghamton Senators (where you sent samples) was great. They loved the shirts and said they did exactly as I told them they were made to do. "
Mike Brown, The Skaters Edge

"The shirt that you supplied to me is holding up very well.  I wear it close to my skin and another shirt over it, after games your shirt captures all of the sweat, the other shirt is always dry.  I am never cold with this shirt and it is holding up well after washings and continued use.  I will say that all of our guys wear long sleeve shirts under their jerseys.  I will be passing the second shirt along to one of our officials that is from Calgary, he will in turn make sure that our equipment purchasing person (who lives in Calgary) gets the second shirt. Thanks"

Greg Kimmerly, NHL Official

"A few weeks ago, I was given "The Lock" and some Kinisi tops with "Active Cotton®" to wear test. As a long time competitive athlete, exposed to all the top brands, this has truly been a revelation. After this short time, I now view Kinisi product as equipment rather than garments. The Lock's support and core compression provides me with the stability I require across a broad range of functional movements. The "Active Cotton®" clothing finally brings the comfort of cotton with the performance factor necessary for elite athletics. My only issue is, I end up washing those few pieces over and over, which usually hurts the performance of a synthetic, but to my surprise, Active Cotton seems to perform better after laundering. Simply put, after discovering Kinisi I simply can't go back to synthetics. Huge kudos to Kinisi for producing products that actually exceed their promises and meet all of my demands."

Active Cotton: a natural fit for endurance sport

The widespread use of synthetic fibres within compression wear and across the sports apparel spectrum has placed cotton at the back of the queue in recent years. So, while the natural virtues of merino wool as a base layer may have carved out a role within the endurance apparel industry, cotton has been largely disregarded as a performance material.

One company, based out of Toronto, Canada, is seeking to change this perception of cotton… triathlonbusiness.com caught up with Kinisi’s’ Creator/Director Regg Miller to talk through the company’s innovative approach to cotton performance apparel, and its plans for the future.

Vital Equipment…Core and Active Cotton®.
Centre yourself. Stabilize your core. You'll have more strength, more power, more energy, more freedom to move, to workout, to strike. Ask any ballet dancer, yogi, martial artist, even weight trainer, and they'll all tell you the same thing; when you are centred and stable, you are a force. You'll perform better, last longer, recover faster. Kinisi breakthrough product, The Lock CoreTM Compression Short, for men and women is a first of its kind. It's a garment, but think of it as a patented, engineered piece of equipment. For men, it holds all your junk in place so your hips, stomach and core are secure. For women, it pulls your tummy and hips in tight to your core, yet both versions leave your legs free.

Active Cotton® was developed and documented in 2007 as the first true breakthrough in a cotton performance product.   Not long after, the development won the worldwide top award of 50 of the top Innovators in the June'08 issue of Apparel Magazine. This unique one way moisture moving cotton can compete with most synthetics and has been proven by wear testing of many athletes to outperform current performance products... (see Kinisi TM survey and testimonials) What makes Active Cotton® so different? Simple. Active Cotton® pulls moisture away from the skin to emulate the body's natural "cooling". But cotton, unlike synthetics does not wick and soak the garment, it only moves the moisture to the surface of the fabric where sweating occurs and allows evaporation there, keeping the rest of the garment dry and comfortable...This kind of "performance" can only be achieved with Active Cotton® .
